Après cinq siècles, L'Adolescence n'a pas fini de chanter et Marot est plus jeune que jamais. Héritière du Moyen Age et annonciatrice des temps modernes, son œuvre se situe dans l'intervalle qui sépare Charles d'Orléans de Maurice Scève. Elle s'affranchit des contraintes de la Grande Rhétorique pour affirmer sa liberté souveraine. Divisé en sept chapitres, cet itinéraire critique s'ouvre par deux études générales consacrées à l'oralité et au rire, se poursuit par deux études de cas qui traitent du genre de l'héroïde et de la ballade, et s'achève par deux commentaires qui envisagent, au-delà de L'Adolescence, L'Enfer et son imitation par Etienne Dolet, les Psaumes et leur relecture par Calvin dans le sens d'une autobiographie providentielle. En épilogue, un chapitre de synthèse s'attache à définir le " secret " de Clément Marot, secrétaire et poète, partagé entre le service du Prince et le service de Dieu.
