100 films, du roman à l'écran

Peut-on faire d'un grand roman un grand film ? Depuis ses débuts, le cinéma se nourrit de littérature, mais l'alchimie qui permet de transposer l'oeuvre romanesque sur grand écran semble réservée aux plus grands cinéastes : Kubrick, Visconti, Renoir, Bresson et quelques autres ont su créer des chefs-d’œuvre à partir d'autres chefs-d’œuvre, quand d'autres en livraient de pâles copies. Cette plongée passionnante dans l'univers de l'adaptation mêle films français et étrangers de toutes époques, grands romans incontournables ou réputés inadaptables et œuvres oubliées, littérature classique et roman policier, science-fiction ou nouveau roman. En ouverture, Henri Mitterand offre une brillante introduction aux problèmes théoriques et pratiques de l'adaptation à partir de quelques œuvres emblématiques.
