L’incroyable année 1979 a vu se succéder des événements qui ont changé le cours de notre histoire : révolution iranienne, accords de Camp David, prise d’otages de La Mecque et de l’ambassade américaine à Téhéran, et enfin, invasion soviétique de l’Afghanistan... Voici comment, pendant cette période, la France a cru pouvoir manipuler l’ayatollah Khomeiny et prendre en Iran la place des Américains, comment le Mossad a organisé, en pleine révolution islamique, l’exode clandestin de dizaines de milliers de Juifs iraniens, et comment le royaume saoudien a fait appel au GIGN français pour libérer les lieux saints de l’islam occupés par des terroristes avec, à la clé, une récompense inattendue. On lève ici le voile sur les complicités occidentales qui ont permis au Pakistan, bien avant l’Iran, de mettre sur pied le premier programme nucléaire islamique et l’on découvre de quelle manière les services de renseignement saoudiens et pakistanais ont organisé les réseaux de financement et d’armement d’intégristes prêts à se retourner contre l’Occident. Les services secrets de tous bords – CIA, Sdece, Mossad... – et les présidents Carter et Giscard d’Estaing ont joué dans cette époque agitée un rôle crucial et parfois trouble, entraînant une série de réactions en chaîne. En quelques mois, le Moyen-Orient a basculé, et le monde entier avec lui, favorisant l’avènement d’un islamisme radical aujourd’hui florissant.
