La littérature du proche en France

Lorsqu’un écrivain choisit de faire du lien qui l’attache à son pays natal l’axe majeur de son œuvre, il encourt inévitablement une forme de délégitimation : le territoire auquel il consacre son écriture risque de marquer les limites de son audience et de lui conférer dans le champ littéraire un statut inférieur à celui des écrivains dont la production est réputée « universelle ». En France, cette hiérarchisation est d’autant plus accusée qu’elle s’appuie sur la centralisation parisienne des institutions littéraires. L’écriture du pays natal procède donc souvent d’un écart entre deux lieux : le territoire dont elle fait son objet privilégié et Paris, où elle s’élabore en tant qu’œuvre littéraire. S’il peut être vécu comme une déchirure, cet écart n’en est pas moins une matrice féconde quand il inspire une mise en fiction des tensions qu’il engendre. Cet ensemble d’études porte sur un corpus d’écrivains français qui, depuis le milieu du XIXe siècle jusqu’à notre époque, ont mis en exergue un lien affectif avec la région qui les avait vus naître. Croisant les approches de l’histoire littéraire et de l’analyse sociolittéraire, elles visent à éclairer à la fois les ressorts mnémoniques de l’écriture, lorsqu’elle se met en quête de l’enfance et de la communauté d’origine, et les conditions sociales de sa constitution en littérature.
