En tant que gardiens des sciences et de la technologie, notre travail consiste à étendre la culture scientifique, à la bâtir, à la rapprocher de la réalité qu’elle cherche à comprendre et à l’éloigner du sens commun, à révéler sa nature construite, à faire connaître son histoire, à développer un esprit scientifique et d’authentiques compétences en science et technologie. Puisant abondamment dans l’épistémologie, la didactique, les sciences cognitives et les neurosciences, l’auteur rappelle qu’il est possible, pour une même quantité d’énergie déployée, de favoriser des apprentissages d’une meilleure qualité et plus durables, pour davantage d’élèves. L’ouvrage fournit quelques rappels synthétiques importants et informe des résultats de réflexions et de recherches empiriques récentes, inspirantes et utiles. Pour une fois, on n’invite pas les enseignants à en faire davantage, mais plutôt à tenter de faire mieux, en faisant peut-être autrement.
