La Télévision gaulliste et la révolution cubaine éclaire d’un jour nouveau les relations franco-cubaines pendant la décennie que dura la présidence du Général de Gaulle (1959-1969) qui correspond précisément aux dix premières années du régime castriste. Il porte en particulier un regard inédit sur l’histoire de la télévision, nouveau vecteur de connaissance pour les Français mais également outil de propagande pour le pouvoir qui le mit largement à profit afin de servir ses intérêts. Contre toute attente, dans une période historique extrêmement dense, de la Crise de missiles à la Conférence tricontinentale et de la Guerre d’Algérie à Mai 68, le traitement de la révolution cubaine par la télévision française fut bien un moyen pour le général d’imposer ses choix en matière de politique intérieure et extérieure. En croisant les archives de l’INA et du Quai d’Orsay, Alexis Catuhe décrypte les mécanismes et les objectifs de l’information télévisuelle dont les médias actuels sont encore grandement inspirés. Il démontre que la télévision fut, et peut-être reste, un formidable outil de propagande au service du pouvoir.
