Un jour, vous avez vu une affiche dans la rue, une affiche dont vous avez presque immédiatement détourné le regard, pas assez vite cependant pour ne pas voir que les petits personnages en tissu rose, couchés côte à côte, avaient pour certains deux têtes, l’une qui embrassait une personne d’un côté et l’autre de l’autre… Une amie qui avait vu la même affiche vous demanda peu après si vous iriez voir l’exposition. Vous avez répondu que non, que ça ne vous disait rien, ces choses en tissu. Mais si vous aviez réagi si vivement, c’est bien que ça vous disait quelque chose… Ce petit quelque chose est l’objet de ce récit très personnel, lancé avec une empathie contagieuse sur les traces de Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010), à la découverte d’une artiste protéiforme et d’une femme profondément attachante dont la longue vie, marquée par des relations familiales complexes, l’exil en Amérique, la difficulté de l’épanouissement dans le monde de l’art de l’après-guerre, dominé par le surréalisme, l’expressionnisme abstrait, et les hommes, déboucha finalement, après des années de travail obscur, sur la gloire soudaine, éclatante, d’une rétrospective au musée d’Art moderne de New York, et une œuvre tardive bouleversante.
